Youth Art Project

This Is What Peace Looks Like

At this point in time, with so many struggles both internal and external, it may be hard for many of us to think of peace or even what the word peace means or represents. Our youth battle this dilemma daily and are seeking ideas and answers.  This Is What Peace Looks Like is an art project that enables local youth to give voice to their visions of peace.

As part of the conference Building a Culture of Peace that will take place in Santa Fe on May 16th and 17th,  Bobbe Besold and Chrissie Orr (both veteran artist/ activists)  have developed, with local youth, a contemporary photographic installation on the theme of peace. The images, digitally printed and applied to panels, create four large folding screens with images on front and back.  Youth who participated in this project are affiliated with Su Vida, the Intermountain Youth Center, the Santa Fe Indian School, and La Otra Puerta Youth Shelter..

Two of the completed panels were exhibited at the rotunda of the New Mexico State Capitol in September of 2006 with an audience of school groups, tourists, and locals from all over New Mexico and the planet. The other two panels are currently under production. All four will be presented May 16 and 17 at the World Peace Conference at the Santa Fe Hilton and will exhibited to the conference’s diverse international audience.

The peace panels’ final homes will be at the schools and youth shelters where they were created.
